Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” John 14:1.

A feeling of Hopelessness enters the heart, as there appears to be no end in sight to your current dilemma; there are times that you literally grasp to hang on with all that you’ve got, desiring for some sense of relief . . . and suddenly a still small voice whispers “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” John 14:1. That is when the light suddenly shines through the darkness, reminding you that no matter how dim things may appear, there is always hope in God! “For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.” Psalm 71:5.

There is absolutely nowhere that we can find ourselves in life that God is not already there, holding, leading, comforting, and making a way out of no way. Psalm 139: 7-10 gives us the assurance that God’s abiding presence is with us at all times “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

We can rest in this assurance, God already knows about our troubles…and he hears our cries when our heart sinks and we whisper in prayer-where do I go from here, I’ve tried everything, and what will happen if or when Lord? “(A Song of degrees.) In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.” Psalm 120:1.

Such were even the thoughts of the disciples as Jesus prepared to leave them to face the cross, but He gently comforted them just as He does us with these words “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” John 14:1. 

Have you considered the book of Job – it also witnesses to us that “this” life has its troubles; “Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.” Job 14:1. It is certainly true that we are either experiencing something now, just come out of something, or headed right back into something sooner than we think!

But, to God be the glory…that even in our weakest moments, especially those things that can bring us down to our knees, we can trust in these comforting words of the Lord: “A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.” Matthew 12:20. He has faithfully promised to love us and to never leave us alone…He is closer than the very air that we breathe!

Yes, tears do fall, but God is a very present help in trouble- He is the comforter, healer and lover of our souls; and He bids us to come boldly before His throne of grace,  casting all our cares on Him.“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.

So, start this day trusting in God; He is the light at the end of the tunnel… our ever-lasting hope and rest in the assurance that “this”  current circumstance is working out for your good! “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;” 2 Corinthians 4:17.

The late Rev. Paul Jones beautifully sung these comforting words:

“I Won’t Complain.” 

I’ve  had some good days, And I’ve had some hills to climb

I’ve had some weary days, And some sleepless nights

But when I look around, And I think things over . . . All of my good days

Out-weigh my bad days, I – I- I won’t complain!
