A Well Nourished Tree

A Well Nourished Tree

“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psalm 1:3 (KJV)

Did you know that a deep-rooted tree can survive prolonged dry periods? It has the capacity to uptake water below the ground, far beyond what can be seen with the natural eye… the roots run so deep that they can reach the rich nourishment and water under great depths below the earth’s surface.

The Psalmist in the 1st Psalm writes of a blessed man who meditates on God’s word; he is synonymous to those deep-rooted trees that receive rich nourishment from a constant flowing stream; but this man receives life giving water from on high. This living water provides eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord: John 4:14 (KJV) states: “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” This life giving water replenishes our souls over and over again… it will never run dry.

If we remain steadfast to the study of God’s word, we will grow and become spiritual reservoirs of His amazing grace. I am reminded of the seed that fell on good ground in Matthew 13:23 (KJV) “But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

The seed is the word of God and how it grows in our lives; the difference between the seed that fell on good ground, oppose to the other scenarios was its ability to produce fruit. When the word is well planted in a receptive and willing heart, it yields abundant fruit.

The good ground is the place in which we all should desire to be in our spiritual walk with the Lord. When we understand and adhere to God’s word, it transforms our hearts, brings us into spiritual maturity and gives evidence that we are walking just a little bit closer with the Lord; let us strive to stay in the word, study to be quiet and listen that we may grow; Peter put it like this in 1 Peter 2:2 (KJV) “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

God’s grace, protection, peace, and joy be with us all.
