Even When I Cannot See: Trusting God’s Guidance

Even When I Cannot See: Trusting God’s Guidance

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.

Imagine a building on fire. You run to the only open window, thirty to forty feet above the ground. Thankfully, you see the fireman and safety net below. He calls out, urging you to jump. Despite hesitation, you know there is a net and a team ready to save you, so you leap. But what happens if you reach the window and can’t see anything through the smoke and fire? In that darkness, you only hear a still, small voice say, “JUMP…I AM your safety net!” Our faith is often tested not when we can see clear help, but when we must trust God’s voice amid uncertainty. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” John 10:27.

At any given moment, we encounter decisions and circumstances that can be life-threatening; those are the crucial moments that we must put our faith into action. The Apostle James wrote of faith producing holy fruit, or that true believing is not an act of the understanding only, but a work of the whole heart“But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” James 2:20.

Abraham, by faith, prepared a sacrifice with his only son, Isaac. He obeyed God. “And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.” Genesis 22:9. Abraham believed God would provide a lamb for the sacrifice. He even told those who journeyed with him that both he and Isaac would return: “And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.” Genesis 22:5. My friends, we walk by faith and not by sight!

Are you in the proverbial fire of life today? Whom will you trust? Will you follow the still, small voice that says, “Jump”? Every child of God who has experienced the faithfulness of His power can trust in the Lord—He will direct us every single time. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.

So, even when the way seems darkest, and there is absolutely no physical visibility to see our way out, let us take comfort in these words from the Lord: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1.

We can rest assured that God is our safety net now and forever. “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways” Psalms 91:11.

May you find strength, peace, and courage as you trust Him in every moment. God’s grace and mercy be with you always!
