“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Romans 8:28 is a well-known verse of scripture that brings peace and comfort to the heart of God’s beloved children. It reminds us of how God is orchestrating the circumstances in our lives for our good. Still, we overlook the words “all things” in this verse. This means God is in control of everything. While all things are working for our good, it does not mean we will not suffer physical, spiritual, or even emotional difficulties in life. 

God is merciful and loving. He guides us, heals us, provides for us, and keeps us safe now and always. For this reason, we can trust and find hope in these words: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (KJV Romans 8:28)

If you have lived long enough, you have probably heard the saying, “If you cannot take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!” It sounds clever, but it is not realistic. Some challenges, like illness, loss, or hardship, cannot simply be avoided. Life happens, but we can thank God that (KJV Psalm 46:1) says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

In the darkest of nights, we can depend on God. He will succor and keep us safe from harm. We are safe in His arms! The Psalmist in verses 46:2-3 admonishes us not to fear, even when facing some very cataclysmic occurrences: “Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” 

Why does he admonish us not to fear? Because GOD is right in the midst of it all, and He turns down the heat in our lives, my friend. “The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” Psalm 46:7. Yes, things will happen beyond our control, but when we run to the foot of the cross, there is safety in the power and purposes of God!

Trust Him and hold on to His unchanging hands!
