King Jesus!
“And when ye saw that Nahash! the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the Lord your God was your king.” 1 Samuel 12:12.
Have you noticed how some people always want what others have and are never satisfied with what they own? The Israelites were the same. When they looked at other nations, they thought they needed a king like everyone else. “And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the Lord your God was your king.” 1 Samuel 12:12.
So why was it a problem for them to want a king? Other nations had leaders who inspired and protected them. But it’s easy to forget what really matters. Even when the Israelites were outnumbered, God fought for them. He was their true leader, giving them victory, providing for them, protecting them, and guiding them. Through leaders like Moses and Aaron, they were reminded that real leadership comes from God, not people. They already had everything they needed! “And Samuel said unto the people, It is the Lord that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.” 1 Samuel 12:6.
Sometimes, as God’s children, we also want things our own way. We want a “king” we can see and touch. But the Bible reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:). How did the desire to be like everyone else work out for the children of Israel? The eighth chapter of 1 Samuel lists a long line of evil consequences that would result from having their chosen king. It ends with 1 Samuel 8:18: “And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the Lord will not hear you in that day.”
My friends, every believer already has a King, and His name is Jesus! He loves us, fights for us, and gives us everything we need. His amazing grace carries us through every challenge. He is all-powerful, and nothing is greater than Him. Our Heavenly Father made Him King of Kings and Lord of Lords forever. Psalm 2:6-7 says, “Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”
There is nothing we will ever need or any battles we must overcome that our Almighty God will not bring us through. So today let me ask you: What seems impossible to you? Are you looking for an earthly king to fight your battles? Hold on to your faith. God has never failed and is faithful to His promises. He is our King of glory! “Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.” Psalm 24:8. “All hail King Jesus-He reigns forever!”
May God’s peace and love always be with you!
