I Need Thee Every Hour
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9.
Strength is defined as the quality of being strong, or the capacity for exertion or endurance. In times of trouble, we find ourselves praying for strength to endure the storms of life. It is a fact that the human spirit will always fail, unless the Holy Spirit prevails. Our strength comes only from the Lord!
On this journey of life, we will have trials and tribulations. The Apostle Peter warned us of trials to come in 1 Peter 4:12: “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you.”
My friends, God has so loved us that He has given us all the strength we need to walk this journey home. I recall a story of a young woman walking home from school each day. A young man noticed her as she passed by and asked if he could walk with her. She declined his offer. He was obviously hurt from the rejection, especially noticing that she always walked alone. Therefore, he confronted her one day and asked why she had refused his offer, especially since he knew she walked home alone. Her response, with a smile, was… when you see me, I am never truly walking alone.
During difficult times, and certainly in life, there are many – when we’re at our weakest- may we recall examples of those like Gideon, Samson, and David – just a few among our heroes of faith. Of whom the bible states, “Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.” Hebrews 11:34.
God gave them the strength to endure. He is the very same God today who will also give us the strength, peace, and hope to persevere through the trials of this life. And above all, let us look and hold fast to our greatest example- Jesus the Christ! “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2.
My friends, it is inevitable that we must all hasten to the throne of grace and ask God for the strength that we need to run this Christian race. God’s strength and power are made perfect in our weakest moments. We simply need to let go and let God have His way! “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me”. 2 Corinthians 12:9.
Many times, as I bow my head in prayer, i recall these comforting words being sung by the late Rev. C. B. Dailey:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.
No matter what we face, let us remember that God is the source of our joy and strength. Trusting fully in His amazing grace is what sustains, comforts, and gives us perfect peace. When we feel weak or burdened, let us confidently seek His help, knowing that “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2. It is through Christ that we truly find the strength we need every hour.
May God give you strength, peace, and grace to run on in victory!
