“Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? And whereunto shall I resemble it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.” Luke 13:18-19.

We often imagine magnificent and grandiose ways the Holy Spirit will guide us in using our God-given time, talents, and treasures. But God’s ways and thoughts far exceed ours. Sometimes it’s the small things that seem insignificant to us – that end up touching the lives of others, so that they can see God in it all!  “Every testimony brings something of heaven into the atmosphere. It gives us a divine moment when things shift and are transformed because the record of God’s activity is revealed. (Defining Moments: Bill Johnson).” 

Let us consider the transformation of Moses in the book of Exodus. He was born a Hebrew, raised as a prince in Egypt, ran as a fugitive, humbled as a shepherd in the land of Midian, and called by God to be the deliverer of his chosen people, the Israelites. Moses felt unworthy and worried about the people’s rejection. 

“And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.” But God showed Moses through a series of signs that any old stick will do! And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. With God, all things are possible– the same rod that Moses used to shepherd sheep, when divinely powered by God, allowed him to stretch forth and part the Red Sea!

And what about the poor widow who cast into the treasury only two mites, which was so small compared to others? But Jesus validates the value of those two mites that came from her heart!  “And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.” Mark 12:43-44.

My friends, whatever we release to God, He transforms for His glory! It’s not the object; it’s the Creator that makes the difference. Although we cannot imagine how far our works of obedience reach, we do know that God is working a good work in each of us.  So when we truly want to be used by God, we must let go and let God lead the way! “Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

In Luke chapter thirteen, Jesus uses the parable of a mustard seed to show how, through His power, our lives yield more than we can even imagine. “Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? And whereunto shall I resemble it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.” Luke 13:18-19. The tiniest talent, time, or treasure surrendered to God yields a great increase!
