Where Will It Come From?
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20.
All of a sudden, it happens… the circumstances demand immediate action on your part to provide resources you have no earthly idea how to access. The next thought: Lord, where will it come from? I don’t have it; I don’t even know who to get it from, or where to go. And the Holy Spirit reminds you of where all your needs are supplied! “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” Ephesians 3:20.
I must stand as a witness that God can do the impossible and will always provide for His beloved children. It was 1996; I was on dialysis, in and out of the hospital; funds were past low, a single parent with a young son, so I reached out to social services-at least for food. But because I had a good job as a teacher, the social services refused my application. I recall submitting my two-week check for 375.00 to them because all my sick leave had been exhausted, and lo and behold, they took that amount to pay for my insurance! The rent was due, and I was asking the Lord the same question, “Lord, where will it come from?”
As we do, I reached out to another source I felt sure would answer. And when the response was returned, it was a “no,” sorry, we’re unable to help.” Have you ever truly trusted in the things readily available to you, just sure that your faithfulness would kick in? I am here to testify that God’s ways are not ours; matter of fact, He will dispel our faith in anything or anyone above Him! “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3.
When I received the response, I fell to my face and cried out, “But, Lord, I can’t believe they would let me down!” And immediately, as the words left my mouth, the Holy Spirit didn’t whisper but said firmly: “But I didn’t let you down!” My Lord, and my God, I get chills at this very moment of God’s response to my aching soul!
The very next day, I went into work, and as I was leaving, one of the co-workers walked me out to the parking lot. She stopped me and said, Violetra, my family usually helps another family during the Christmas season-would you mind if we take you and your son this year? Of course, I responded slowly, but thankfully yes-she said give me a list of things you and your son may need. That was Monday.
On Tuesday, I gave her a short list of things Reg wanted for Christmas. I also wrote, “I am really thankful, and you don’t have to give me anything, but if you have anything towards these bills, I would be most appreciative.” I listed the basics: electricity, phone, and rent.
On Friday evening, she, her husband, and daughter came by to visit Reg and me. She had toys for Reg, and even some nice small gifts for me: a soup cup, comfy socks, and a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. After fellowshiping for a little while, they got up to leave. As they were walking out, she laid an envelope on my table. She stated, don’t open that until we leave. We said our goodbyes, and when they left, I opened the envelope- they had included a check to my complex, paying my entire rent! God provided- in His way, not mine, using someone I would have never approached and would not have imagined- what a mighty God we serve! My friends, don’t count God out-He’s working behind the scenes, providing all that you need! Trust in His faithfulness.
There was a much greater lesson in this testimony for me to learn: God was building my faith; that was just the prelude to my trust in His faithfulness and ability to provide all that I need. I needed more than the rent that day; I needed a kidney transplant- and on October 21, 1996, He supplied it- my name went on the list the first week of October as a candidate for a kidney! Two weeks later, I received the call on a Sunday afternoon. The nurse who called stated, “I have never heard of someone being on the transplant list for only two weeks.” I ask you, is there anything too hard for God? My God can and will do anything. Will you put your trust and faith in Him? God never fails!
Thirty years later, He’s still sustaining me with that same kidney, and to Him belongs all the glory! So, at this very moment, start believing and praising God for the answer to your prayers- it’s already done!
