Relying on the Wisdom and Love of God
“But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” (Psalm 115:3).
Divine providence means that God, by His wisdom and love, cares for and guides all things in the universe. This belief tells us that God is in complete control of all things. Scripture resounds even more powerfully with these divine words from Psalm 24:1: “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
To put it simply, the Lord God Almighty is sovereign. He can do whatever He wants, whenever and however He chooses, because He is God! “But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. (Psalm 115:3).
The trials and tribulations of life are inevitable, but for those who believe, God’s word promises us that He is always in control. He keeps us safe in His everlasting arms with wisdom and love, so we can trust that all is well. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1).
Let us consider Joshua after Moses’ death. He had been handed the mantle by God, and was now in direct leadership of the Israelites. We can imagine the fears and apprehensions Joshua had at leading a stubborn, hurting, and inexperienced nation across the Jordan River into the Promised Land. But God gave Joshua assurance of His unfailing presence.
In fact, Joshua peace would come from trusting in the faithfulness and reliability of God-not from relying on his own human efforts! “So, I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” (Joshua 1:5b).
Even when life brings us to our knees, remember that light always overcomes darkness; our light in the darkness is Jesus- and in those moments, He sweetly ushers in peace that reminds us that He will never leave us alone!
The beloved old hymn brings comfort to our aching souls: “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!” These words remind us that God is in control and knows what’s best: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” (Psalm 37:23).
Whatever it is that brings you to the throne of grace at this moment… start with praise and thanksgiving, because God, in His omniscience, already knows, and you can rest in the assurance that He cares for you, and that He is preparing you for everything He has ordained in your life that comes next! “
The good news is even though we can’t see what’s ahead…we can run on in the Spirit to see what the end will be … trusting in God’s faithfulness to love, care, and keep us forever- because He is God! “The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” (Psalm 121:8).
May God’s blessings of love and peace be with us all!
