Set Up to Be a Blessing

Set Up to Be a Blessing

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

We sing with up lifted voices and robust praise these words giving honor and glory to God. . . “Praise God from whom all blessings flow, praise Him all creatures here below; praise Him above ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.” God deserves the glory and honor in all things, 1 Thessalonians admonishes us “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

If we are honest, it is quite easy to bless and praise God when things are going as we think they should; but when life gets hard and things go against the grain of our own rationality, our prayers are more in the line of Lord have mercy! And thankfully, we have a merciful and loving God, we are reminded in 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

In the life of the born-again believer, who honestly believes in the providence of God, we know that every occurrence is according to His will. Therefore, we can give praise and thanks in all things; knowing that God has a purpose and a plan for placing us just where we are at this very moment. Jeremiah 29:11 state “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

The account of Joseph’s life in the book of Genesis gives us several great examples of how God uses our circumstances to bless not just us, but to extend His blessing to others. Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers out of jealousy; but God literally set Joseph up to be a blessing far beyond what he could ever imagine. . . “And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.” Ultimately, Joseph became the second in command to Pharaoh in the land of Egypt, God used his life circumstances to bless and save his people.

Where is life leading us today? . . . it may not be clear, but by faith we know that it is well; Malachi 3:6 reminds us “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” He orchestrates and orders our steps; we can trust in His faithfulness and love; His plan is always best. So, let us praise God today from whom all blessings flow; we are being set up to be a blessing!

God’s peace and amazing grace keep and guide you always!
