El Shaddai

El Shaddai

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8. “

El Shaddai is the name that references the mightiness and all sufficient power of God. He is Almighty . . . He is the Lord, our mighty God and there is none like Him. Knowing that God is El Shaddai matters. It reminds us of His strength and power, and that He is the One who freely gives to us nourishment and blessing, He was, is, and always will be our Sustainer. “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8.

In Genesis 17:1 we find the account of Abram close to a hundred years old; he had been listening and following the leading of God since the age of seventy-five. God had promised him an heir and that He would make of his descendants an innumerable and great nation. However, his wife Sarai was barren, they were both old and far beyond child baring years. The Lord appears to Abram and reminds him that He is the Almighty God! “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Genesis 17:1.

The prospect of having a child at ninety-nine with a barren wife we can assume was daunting, an impossible feat and inconceivable in Abram’s mind. But the question is not the rationality of it all, but his faith had to respond to the One that is Almighty—El Shaddai our sufficient Lord, with whom nothing shall be impossible. “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37.

We know the end of the account; Isaac was born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age…he was the child of promise. God is Almighty, all sufficient and there is no failure in God! Like Abraham is there in impossible feats that you must climb today-is whom is your faith responding? Our all sufficient and powerful God will meet you just where you are, and He will deliver!

The enemy of our souls would have us to walk around with a defeatist attitude, believing that we cannot accomplish that which God has already promised. Thoughts that bombard the mind, such as I am ill equipped or do not have the financial resources, the knowledge, the strength of a younger man or experience of and older man…and numerable other scenarios to stop us from following through with God’s directives; but the power that lives in us…is none other than Almighty God and we are more than capable of completing His calling in our lives at this very moment.

So, let us start this day in the peace, hope and comfort of knowing that El Shaddai, our all-powerful God- the Lord God Almighty will perfect in us His divine will; and all that we need to accomplish our calling, He will supply. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” James 1:5.

There is absolutely nothing that supersedes the power of God… He is El-Shaddai, and we can rest in the assurance that we are sustained and empowered by His grace through the Holy Spirit now and forever. Praise be to God!

Blessings of grace, comfort, and peace be with you all now and always.
