Letting Go

Letting Go

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11

It is not easy to let go of things that we hold near and dear to our hearts or even beliefs that we have held on for years. Letting go can take a number of meanings. The unsaved person would find it to mean a free ticket to just live life anyway the wind blows or follow the direction of whatever comes up next; to the child of God, it has a whole different connotation. It means releasing our wills into the sovereign will of God.

We all have dreams and plans for the future, not only for ourselves but for our loved ones. It is just natural to try and align our lives so that we accomplish those dreams and aspirations; this is not unreasonable, certainly it is wise to have a purpose in life, hopefully to leave footprints someday on the sands of time. But it is imperative however, that we seek that purpose from God.

If we believe and know that God has created us, then we know that He already has a set purpose for our lives. All of the hopes, dreams, and fears that we hold on to must be released into the hands of the One who loves us and knows what is best for us.

Yes, we set plans for the future, but God holds the future. We must depend on Him and submit to His leading. Our times are not held in our own hands, and we must reverence that He is God. “For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” James 4:15.

I have heard it said if you want to make God laugh…tell him your plans. The best laid plans can go awry. Proverbs 3:5-6 settles it all “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

It is logical to fear the unknown, but faith is not logical; if what we are hoping for can be seen then it is not faith. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1. God is omniscient and knows exactly where we are, what we need and where we are headed in this life and in the life to come. Therefore, it is wise to let go and let Him lead the way. Psalm 119:133 states “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.”

His is faithful and true, Jeremiah 29:11 assures us of His loving guidance in our lives “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11. May we learn by the help of His grace, to release all our cares over to His providential care. He loves us so much that He gave His only begotten Son, Christ died for us and prepared a place that we may live with Him forever; if He can secure eternity for us…then He is faithful to manage everything that we are facing in this present life too.

So, as 1 Peter 5:6-7 admonishes us “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” There is no safer place to be than in the will of God. Let go and let God lead you in His divine will.

God blessings and peace be with us all.
