God is Sovereign Over Delays
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.
On September 11, 2001, over three thousand people died in the attacks on the World Trade Center. However, the accounts of those who for various reasons were late, delayed, laid off, or other circumstances took them away from the normal course of life that day…by the grace and mercy of God were survivors. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I Thessalonians 5:18.
Some attributed their surviving to sheer luck-while others who gave thanks to God for His divine providence, and sovereignty…recognized that everything, the good as well as the painful circumstances- all move by the power of God. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.
Delays are often unwelcomed and thought of as a hindrance…but in every delay we are waiting on God in one way or another; our times and schedules are in His hands; haven’t you experienced circumstances that you have absolutely no control over-all that you can do wait? God is always in control and He is working behind the scenes in and through it all. But while we are waiting, we learn to humble ourselves, trust God at His word and to rest in the peace of His comforting grace. “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14.
Remember that each delay has it’s own lesson-God wants to teach us somthings like having patience, endurance, forbearance, and stronger faith- He is more interested in developing our godly character instead of ensuring that things align with our own well laid out plans. The word of the Lord reminds us that “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 37:23.
The good news is that He loves and knows exactly what is best for us. “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32.
My friends, when God delays things in our lives, let us stay the course, holding to His unchanging hands, trusting, and depending in His sovereignty and unfailing love, being confident that He is faithful to His promises…and He will come through on time! “The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. ” Lamentations 3:25-26.
God’s blessings of peace, and grace be with us all.
