A Faithful Comforter

A Faithful Comforter

“Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:4

There are just times when we all need a shoulder to cry on, someone to understand, a word of encouragement, and comfort to help us run on just a little while longer. My friends our faith in God and His amazing grace will always prevail when we cast every care and concern at the foot of the cross. “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7.

God hears the cries of our hearts and knows our hurts, we can take comfort in knowing that He will not allow us to suffer above that which we are able to bear. Scripture brightens the path between that which appears devastating to a lively hope of God’s omnipotence! “A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.” Isaiah 42:3.

Consider the analogy that Isaiah 42:3 gives for our comfort…. a bruised reed is one that is so thin that it is about to snap at the slightest blow of the wind and a smoking flax is the flame of a lit wick that is so faint and wavering, until it is fading out; but our Almighty, gracious and loving Heavenly Father is able and will provide the strength and sinew that we need to make it through.

Take heart and even though the trials and tribulations of this life will come, keep this closest to your heart-that as long as we are living there is hope and consolation in God- the apostle Paul wrote these words “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.”  Through it all we have the victory, because the Lord is our shepherd and He has all power, He is the God of all comfort!  “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:4.

So, if you find yourself there today, on the wayside of life and need a little comfort…take it to the Lord in prayer, He is closer than the very air that we breathe..He is with us every step of the way. “Call unto me and I will answer you in a great and mighty way that thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3.

Yes, my friends, we have a faithful friend and comforter in Jesus, He alone is our greatest source of strength and healing, especially during times of hardship and pain, He is the lover and keeper of our souls!

Joseph Scriven wrote these comforting words in What a Friend We Have in Jesus:

Can we find a friend so faithful,

Who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

God’s amazing grace and comfort be yours today and always.
