Being Confident in God

Being Confident in God

“In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.” Proverbs 14:26.

The feeling or belief that we can rely on someone or something, is what we define as being confident. Our reliance is based on the proven faithfulness of our source; it is true that we live having confidence in the smallest of things, but when trouble is in our way, and our backs are up against the wall… the only firm trust that we can be assured of is that which we place in our sovereign and Almighty God. “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.” Proverbs 14:26.

The twenty-seventh Psalm is attributed to King David, it is written during a troublesome time in his life; but it is a song of confidence and deliverance…God was David’s light and salvation; the true source of His confidence. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1.

I can imagine as David wrote “When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.” Psalm 27:2. He was reflecting on going up against Goliath-who promised to feed his flesh to the birds of the air. “And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.” 1 Samuel 17:44. Yet God delivered that giant in the hands of a mere shepherd boy that very day!

David goes on to express his confidence in verse three like this “Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident” His faith was battled-tested and proven in God!

Even when it appears a host- described as a group of people or things that are too numerous to count…seems to be against us, we can stand confident in the power, presence and faithfulness of God. “For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. Psalm 27:5. God is our safe place…we can depend on Him!

My friends, is there anything too hard for God-when we have encountered numerous battles on this journey of life… we too can testify of a battled tested and proven faith in the Lord; “And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord” Psalm 27:6.

So, let not your heart be trouble…place your confidence in God, He is the lover, keeper and defender of our souls…regardless to what comes our way- sickness, pain, disappointments, losses, …and the list can certainly go on…through it all we can hold to God’s unchanging hands-He will come through! “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14.

God blessings of peace, strength, and joy to all.
