Distorted Vision

Distorted Vision

“And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.” Mark 8:24

In the Gospel of Mark, we find the account of a blind man from Bethsaida, he was brought to Jesus by his friends to be cured. Jesus led the man outside of the city and commenced to heal his sight. “And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.” Mark 8:23-24.

At first the man’s vision was distorted, he saw men as tall as trees that were walking and Jesus anointed his eyes again “After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.” Mark 8:25.

Visual distortion can easily happen when we focus only on the obstacles that can bombard us in life, making us unable to see clearly where God is leading us. . . but trusting God means looking far beyond what we see with the natural eye. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1.

The blind man that Jesus healed was physically blind, but there are many who are spiritually blind, who see likewise at first; their knowledge is confused, and things appear distorted and all out of shape; but it is not until Jesus touches their “spiritual” eyes that they are able to see clearly. “And I will bring the blind by a way [that] they knew not; I will lead them in paths [that] they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.” Isaiah 42:16.

That old archenemy of our souls’ desires that we all live our lives with distorted vision with such imposters  as fear, worry, doubt and paranoia…rendering us weak and feeling hopeless. But…God never designed for any of His beloved children to navigate this life dominated by fear and disbelief- he has endowed us with the power of the Holy Ghost who gives us the spiritual insight that we need to follow where God leads! “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Proverbs 4:18.

Let us always remember that to see clearly, we must trust God wholeheartedly, we will either trust Him and see through our spiritual vision or we will fall prey to the lies of the enemy… the wise child of God walks by faith in God’s truth! “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” 2 Corinthians 5:7.

God never promised that the road that we travel would be easy- life happens Job 14:1 stated “Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.” But we can rest in the assurance that He will make our paths straight and faithfully leading us according to His divine will now and forever! “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteous.” Psalm 23:3.
