Finding Comfort in the Word

Finding Comfort in the Word

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105.

How do you apply the scriptures when you are down in the thick of the battle, desiring to decide on one direction or the other…but the Holy Spirit says stand still; over and over again you ask yourself the question am I hearing correctly? Then, the Holy Spirt reminds you that “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” John 10:27.

When we are facing the giants in our lives, it is a blessing to know that in the darkest of hours we can cling to assurance of Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” We can find comfort in the Word of God to heal, deliver and shine the light of His amazing grace in every situation we face. So, here are just a few scriptures and thoughts that readily come to mind as I seek His comfort in waiting; hopefully, you will turn to them and many others to find strength for this journey ahead:

Phil. 4:13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Valley experiences can seem insurmountable; but, by God’s grace we can follow His leading. He knows what is best for us in regard to His will.

Joshua 1:9- Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

In the face of adversity, we must stand strong and forge on to do the work that we are commanded to do. The enemy consistently will whisper in our ears; that our witness is being marred and of non-effect for the Lord; He subtly wants us to feel defeated, or cowardice for not following the status quo; but this is far from true and to that, we must call him out as the liar that he is and has always been from the beginning of time, standing strong knowing that we are safe in the arms of Almighty God!

Proverbs 3:5-6-Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding; In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

It is imperative that we place full trust in the Lord, regardless to what we might think our service should look like or even what others think it should look like…and make sure it is the leading of the Holy Spirit guiding our footsteps.

Psalm 46:10Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

This is where we must Stop, be still and listen to God…He is sovereign and in control of all things; that includes our lives!

Isaiah 40:31- But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Let us wait until He says move… when God says move, then move. Not a minute before or after; He will provide all the strength that we need to persevere.

Acts 5:29 – Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. It is better to obey God than man

When you know what you know…follow the Lord. Obedience is better than sacrifice. Obedience brings blessings every single time.

Isaiah 55:8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. My ways are not your ways.

Our ways are not the Lords and what appears normal and right in this world does not have to align with God’s plan for us; His usage of His beloved children is for our good and His glory! No man truly knows the mind of God, but what we do know is that He loves us unconditionally!

1 Corinthians 13:12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

We can only see partially what God has planned at this time for our lives…but one day we will know when we see Him face to face. For now, let us trust in the Holy Spirit’s leading. He never fails; He has the ultimate plan, and it is out this world!

Psalm 46:1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

in this knowledge we can find comfort and peace to weather the storms of life! He will give us strength and power to stay the course according to His divine will, even in the midst of the fiery furnaces of life!

2 Corinthians 12:9   And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

To this verse I can only say…HALLELUJAH! Everyone’s course is not the same…but God’s grace is sufficient to fit every need that we have…He will sustain and keep us to endure forever!

And finally, we have the assurance of a blessed life when we stay in the Word Psalm 1:1-2 state “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

My friends, God has given us sixty-six books of the greatest love letter ever written…search the scriptures for all that you need, in them you will find comfort and rest for your soul.

Blessing and God’s peace be with us all!
