Giving Thanks to the Lord

Giving Thanks to the Lord

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,” Psalm 92:1-2

“Everyday is a day of thanksgiving…God’s been so good to me!” is a line from an old Baptist hymn. It brings praise and thanks to my heart just thinking about how good God is. Even during all the chaotic circumstances that we are experiencing in this world today . . . our Creator is GOOD and provides, sustains, and blesses us along this Christian journey.

Psalm 92 is a call to give thanks to God. David was writing to the Jewish nation about the Sabbath day observation and specifically remembering to hold it as a day of rest to give thanks to God for His providential care. As God beloved children we too are called upon and encouraged to praise God. “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

It is good and praiseworthy to give God thanks for being our Sovereign Lord and for all His innumerable blessings.  Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians that giving thanks is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us. It is our duty and honor to our Lord; “But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:” 2 Thessalonians 2:13.

When we give thanks and honor to God, we are expressing our heartfelt appreciation for His amazing grace and unconditional love. So, regardless to where we are and what is going on in our lives . . . this day and everyday let us lift our hands and loudly proclaim our thanks to God on high. He is good and His mercy endureth forever. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will empower us all to increase in faith, hope, love, and obedience as we give Him thanks.

David extolled God in 1 Chronicles for all His blessing and it is our privilege as well “O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34. The Lord God Almighty alone extends His loving grace and mercy toward us; it because of His mercies that we were able open our eyes and as my dad would say . . .  we are clothes in our right minds this morning! Praise and glory be to God!

Blessing and peace be with you all for a marvelous day.
