God is Sovereign

God is Sovereign

“Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.” 1 Chronicles 29:11-12.

The webster dictionary defines sovereign as one who is a supreme ruler, especially a monarch who has the full right and power of a governing body over itself, without any interference from outside sources or bodies. My friends, I am here to tell somebody that God is Creator and sovereign of all, He is omnipotent  and can do whatever He wants to, when He wants too, and how he wants to . . . just because He is God all by Himself!

King David extolled God in his prayer of thanks like this: “Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.” 1 Chronicles 29:11-12. He humbly recognized and acknowledged that God is almighty!

When we humbly submit our wills to the divine will of the Lord, we can rest in the assurance of knowing that all is well, because He is in direct and total control -He decides what will be, just because He is sovereign. The song writer wrote, who am I to question His wisdom, or be offended by His ways, or by what He allows to be… I must realize that my God is sovereign. He has all power, so I must realize that It does not matter what it things may look like or how we may want it to be; God’s unfailing love and holy will stands forever.

Rest in this truth, absolutely nothing that we encounter- past, present or future can separate us from the love of the Lord God Almighty! For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39.

And no-we cannot completely understand His ways, but we do know by faith and experience that He provides, protects, and safely leads us along this journey of life. Psalm 121:5-8 states “The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

So when life circumstances way heavy on the heart as they certainly will…just hold on to your faith and remember that you are safe in the everlasting arms of God. It is His grace, power and love that sustains us through every trial and tribulation…and as beloved children of God we can also testify as the apostle Paul: “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:3-8.

Whatever we must encounter this day; we can rest confidently in the knowledge that our Sovereign and Almighty God will carry us loving through it all… let us pray to faithfully trust in His continued lovingkindness and great mercy now and forever. “How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.” Psalm 36:7.

God’s blessings, peace and great mercy be with you all!
