Itching Ears

Itching Ears

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;” 2 Timothy 4:3.

A dear friend, prayer partner and former administer, Dr. Brenda A. Wims is an excellent orator. I have often lovingly joked that she could make dirt sound good; while God has blessed her to articulate in such a magnificent manner, she is faithful to spreading the gospel.

Itching ears is a phrase that denotes anything that makes the hearer feel good and agrees with his/her desires and wishes…it is directly opposed to sound doctrine or the truth. 2 Timothy 4:3 state “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;” The world seeks to follow, preachers and teachers who love to put on a show, providing words that please the senses and look good.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12. Our Lord, the only begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ is the Living Word, He knows the intent of every heart, mind, body, and soul. He is the Ruler of the heart and will try and condemn it of unbelief; He can turn it wherever He pleases and lovingly enlightens and calls us by His divine providence, when and how He wills.

Every born-again believer has no excuse for not following in sound doctrine “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26. We are able to discern false teaching by the leading of the Holy Ghost.

The proverbial saying ‘All that glitters is not gold’ means that not everything that is shiny and superficially attractive is valuable. So, watch your step, and stay on guard from the enemy’s ploy of deception to infiltrate God’s word and as 1 Peter 2:2 state “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

God blessings of unspeakable joy be with us all.
