Our Good and Loving Father

Our Good and Loving Father

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” Matthew 7:11.

A good and loving father will do whatever it takes to raise his children to the best of his abilities… often forgoing his own hearts desires or needs to provide, protect, and see them prosper-giving good things when they ask. Jesus asked the following questions about a father’s provisions for his children in Matthew Chapter 7: “Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?” Matthew 7:9-10. Which one of us would give something harmful to our children when they cry out to us…I suffice it to say absolutely none!

What was the Lord teaching? The discourse was on asking and seeking God for the things that we need or desire. The Lord makes a stark contrast of us being human, and inherently evil, desiring to give good gifts to our children, opposed to His love, omnipotence, and omniscience to readily give us all good things when we ask of Him- He is faithful! “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” Matthew 7:11.

This is a reassuring thought that can bring comfort to our hearts…. if we seek to give the best of what we have for our children in relief and sustenance, then how much more do we think our almighty, loving, and caring Heavenly Father will graciously supply all that we need?  “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

God is good– period! So let us resolve to never lose hope and trust in His faithfulness, for He is able to exceed all that we could possibly even think or imagine- Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,  Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21.

My friends, what are you praying for today-health concerns, peace of mind, comfort of heart, strength to endure, open doors to employment, godly relationships- and the list goes on; but I admonish you to fervently ask our good and loving Heavenly Father for what you need, coming as one who is a poor beggar, seeking as though you have lost your most valuable and precious jewel- and knocking so vehemently that the house man must come to the door, because God hears the cries of His beloved children, and He will answer! “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1Peter 5:7.

God amazing grace and peace be with us all!
