Are You Pointing A Finger?

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

It is quite easy to point the finger at someone else’s failures. To think oneself as wiser and less likely to succumb to the error of a another is the human propensity towards out-right arrogance. But this is unwise because we are all subject to fall prey to sin at anytime.  Comparing what someone else has done to our own standards, takes our eyes off the true mark- the Word of God is the only standard that we must live by . . . Galatians 6:1 states “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

Recall the very wise Native American adage- “Every time you point a finger in scorn—there are three remaining fingers pointing right back at you.” My friends, instead of talking about the fallen state of another with others, as born-again believers we should seek to “restore” or gently correct with a heart of love our brothers and sisters; bear with them patiently or practice long-suffering as the Lord is with us, showing great mercy. Christ died for us all Romans 3:23 states “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

God help us to extend to others the same grace that we receive everyday of our lives. Our faults may not be the same, but we all have them, and it is only by the amazing grace of God that we stand in His presence.

Our daily prayer should be to uplift and encourage one another along this journey called life; giving thanks to the Lord that we have not fallen privy to sin ourselves. “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” Philippians 2:4.

So, the next time any of us may catch ourselves pointing a finger; let us stop, regroup, pray, and ask the Holy Spirit to allow the grace of God to shine in and through us to help restore our fallen brother or sister in Christian love. God’s amazing grace is the only thing that we should be pointing towards . . . “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9.

Blessings, peace, and God’s abundant grace be with us all!
