Stillness

Stillness

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10.

To be still is to be absent of movement, deep silence and calm, stillness. There are obvious times when physical movement needs to cease, as in the presence of imminent danger; but deep down in the soul, in the spiritual, stillness is both required and necessary in having a closer walk with our almighty and sovereign Creator.

In Psalm 46:10 we find the account of the Israelites facing attack from the enemy…but God commands them to “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”  In other words…they were to cease from anxiety, worry, and recognize that there were some battles only God would win…to let go and turn it over to the one true and living God to fight; He would be victorious and all heaven and earth would know and exalt Him as the sovereign Lord of all.

God is still calling for His beloved children to be still…there are times when we must simply stop, listen, and hear a word from the Lord! He can flood sweet peace in our unrested souls. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7.

But we must slow down, amid the hustle and bustle of life, and find that stillness and spiritual rest through meditation and prayer that gives us the ability to listen for His voice way down deep inside the soul… “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” John 10:27.

When God speaks . . . spiritual imposters such as anxiety, despondency, and fear; are replaced with hope, peace, and the comfort of knowing that He is closer than the very air that we breathe; whatever our spiritual, physical, mental needs may be, He knows, and we can rest in the comforting words found in Luke 1:37 “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

So, my friends, if your heart is at unrest-listen-God is calling- do you hear? “Be still, and know that I am God.” All is well when it is in the Master’s hands, let go and let God lead you beside the still waters.

God blessings of peace be with us all.
