Stillness

Stillness

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10.

Stillness constitutes the absence of movement, deep silence and calm. There are obvious times when physical movement needs to cease, as in the presence of imminent danger or physical inability; but deep down in the soul, in the spiritual, stillness is both required and necessary in having a closer walk with our almighty and sovereign Lord.  It signifies the importance of quieting the mind and heart to actively listen to His voice…there in the stillnes of those moments is when we recognize the presence and sovereignty of our Great and Amighty God! “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”  Psalm 46:10.

In Psalm 46 we find the account of the Israelites facing attack from the enemy…but God commands them to be still, in other words, they were to immediately stop, cease from anxiety, worry, fear, and recognize that God would fight the battle and reign victorious!

God is still calling for all of His beloved children to be still…there are times when we must simply stop, listen, and let God lead the way- it is right in the crucible of life that He floods sweet peace in our unrested souls. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7.

May God help us to slow down, amid the hustle and bustle of life, and find that stillness and spiritual rest that places our focus totally on Him… a necessary, humble and submissive posture that allows us to hear  a word from the Lord. “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:” James 1:19.

When God speaks my friends . . . all spiritual imposters such as anxiety, despondency, and fear; are replaced with hope, peace, and the comfort of knowing that He is closer than the very air that we breathe; whatever our spiritual, physical, mental needs may be at this moment, He knows, He cares and we can rest in the comforting words found in John 14:1. “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”  Just be still and let God have His way!

God blessings of peace to all.
