Tender Mercies

Tender Mercies

“A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.” Matthew 12:20.

Tender can be defined as showing gentleness, and concern; during times of emotional, physical, or spiritual brokenness, we all need someone to show a little tenderness-the truth is we never know exactly when someone needs that extra gentle touch of care and concern…so it behooves us to treat all men with compassion and love. “Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:” 1 Peter 3:8.

Every born-again believer has the assurance that the Master of our souls…is compassionate, gentle, and loving towards all His beloved children; and just when we are at that breaking point…Scripture reminds us “A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.” Matthew 12:20.

The prophet Isaiah described the character of our Lord, Jesus Christ as the One with extreme gentleness. In Matthew 12:20, the “bruised reed” represents a type of someone’s brokenness caused by the weight or cares of this world, sin, physical pain, rejection to only name a few; but our Lord and Savior seeks to bind our cares and strengthen us in our times of weakness; the “smoking flax” is the wick of the lamp which is ever so dim, in such that the clouded flame can scarcely burn, a mere flicker…ready for extinction-but my God… Jesus is the light of the world and He shines the light that we need in the darkest hour-by succoring us with His tender mercies…“Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 118:4.

My friends, if by chance you are there today…and need a little tenderness … Jesus is calling “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28. At the foot of the cross we find peace, comfort, and rest for our weary souls!

God’s blessings and tender mercies be with us all.
