The Great Shepherd

The Great Shepherd

“Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21.

A shepherd’s primary responsibility is the safety and welfare of the flock. The Psalm 23:1 state “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” What a comforting image and an analogy of our relationship with the Lord.

A good shepherd engages in everything that concerns His sheep; He is the sole protector and guide. Even when they wonder and go contrary to His will; He knows just how to bring them back to the fold and keep them safe under His loving and protective care.

The word of God tells us the Jesus is not only the Good Shepherd, but He is the Great Shepherd of the sheep; Jesus is the One who has secured access to the Father for us; it is by His atoning blood that we have the privilege to go boldly before the throne of grace; and He is the only way and entrance into Heaven.  Praise God that we are His workmanship, and He is completing His divine will in our lives for His glory.

Faithfully placing ourselves under His divine care, allows Him to have free reign in our lives; He will lead us beside the still waters; the good shepherd knows the dangers opposed in running waters…and the sheep’s heavy wool can be a possible source of drowning…but our Shepherd…that Great Shepherd of the sheep knows just how to lead us through dangers seen an unseen my friends!

Through the ups and downs of life…we have peace that is beyond our greatest comprehension. We can walk this journey of life by faith because Jesus is our sovereign Lord, and we know that Romans 8:28 holds true in every circumstance of this life! “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Our hope is not a simple or passing wish; but is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and His righteousness. So, let us rest in the loving care of our Lord; trusting that where He leads, He will provide, protect, guide, and keep us now and forever.

God blessings, joy, protection, and peace be yours always!
