“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.” Acts 2:2

Suddenly…immediate and without warning something happens. On the day of Pentecost, the disciples were unified and waiting in Jerusalem as Jesus had instructed them to do. They were looking to receive the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father. Acts 1:4 reads “And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

I am sure if those old saints could literally have a face-to-face conversation with us…it would blow our minds of the experience they had that day. The scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit came suddenly and filled all the house. It was a miraculous occurrence. They saw and felt His power; it is impossible for us to see God in His complete essence. Moses sought to see God’s face and God spoke unto him and we note in Exodus 33:20 “And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.”  God shows us His glory through the manifestation of things that we can relate to and understand.

In John 3:8 Jesus tells Nicodemus that “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” And just as the Apostle Peter preached to the crowd that day pricking their hearts and over three thousand were saved; God’s promise of the Holy Spirit is still being given to whosoever believeth in Jesus Christ our Lord and repent of their sins today.

We cannot see the Spirit, but we can see the manifestation of His glory and  feel Him living within us…Jeremiah expressed it as like fire shut-up in my bones and all of us who have been saved by the grace of God know exactly what he felt! And no…the disciples do not have to come and speak to us face to face; we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and have the same power from on high. Because He lives in us, and we are witnesses to God’s saving grace and almighty power.

There will always be naysayers just like those on the day of Pentecost…denying what they obviously saw and heard. They accused the disciples of being drunk with wine, the fact is that they saw the effects of the Holy Spirit and could not deny it… they simply refused to believe. So, it is today, when the Holy Spirit lives within us and fills our lives, it shows. Yes, man may deny it, but they cannot help but see the glory of God being manifested through His divine creation to accomplish His will.

So, today I am reminded of Timothy as the Apostle Paul admonishes him in 2 Timothy 1:6 “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.” Let us stir up the gift of God that is within us by lifting, encouraging, and comforting others; allowing the Holy Spirit to fill us and manifest His glory through us to the world… never forget that we are blessed to be a blessing!
