The Light of Truth

The Light of Truth

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

It is customary for a witness appearing before the court, to take an oath; these words are often repeated: “I swear by Almighty God that the evidence I shall give will be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.” It is a verbal promise to tell the truth. So, what is really the truth-everyone can have their own truth, but the bible clearly tells us exactly what or who the truth is John 14:6 state “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

A life of truth is guided by the indwelling of the Spirit of Truth or the Holy Spirit… otherwise, we cannot love God or our fellowman. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” Hebrews 11:6.

In the sixth chapter of Ephesians the apostle Paul admonishes us to put on the whole armor of God, so that we can stand against evil schemes of our greatest foe…Satan and his demonic forces. Ephesians 6:14 speaks of the weapon of truth “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;”

Truth and righteousness are like a belt and are not so much of a weapon as the foundation that holds all things together. It reminds me of seeing my mom put on a girdle when I was a child…it holds everything in place! We must stand on the foundation of the gospel…Jesus is the Savior of the world; he came, died, and was resurrected on the third day and lives forever more; He is Alpha and Omega… He is God and there is salvation in no other!

“Truth” is the one bond of both society and of our individual character. Jesus prayed for us to receive the Spirit of truth.  “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:16-17

What truth are you really standing on today- a tree is known by the fruit that it bears; there is only one truth and that is the Word of God; and every born-again believer can stand as a witness by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit… that God’s Word is nothing but the truth. As we walk through this journey of life, let us acknowledge, listen, and obey the light of truth now and forever.

God blessings and peace be with you all.
