“Twas Grace!

“Twas Grace!

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed. – Amazing Grace was written by John Newton over two centuries ago. It reflects the heartfelt lyrics of a man who dealt with the slave trade and was often enslaved himself. However, by God’s amazing grace, Newton was miraculously saved and fought against the enslavement of others throughout the remainder of his life.

The lyrics to this long-time African American Spiritual continue to touch millions of hearts and remind us of the grace that God extends to His people. The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

We all can identify with Newton as he writes, through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; ’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. There is not one incident or occurrence in which God did not step in and bring me out… what about you? Through numerous life-challenging circumstances, I can testify that when I fell on my knees, the power, grace, and love of God have always brought me safely through!

His grace, His unmerited favor towards us is sufficient, and more than enough… and it is magnified in our weakest of times…that is when God steps in, my friends, and says, I will carry you now, trust me, this too shall pass. I will never put more on you than you can bear; “A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.” Isaiah 42:3.

God’s unconditional love and amazing grace raised His only begotten Son from the dead on the third day. Our Lord and Savior has the power to deliver us both physically and spiritually, so that we may live in unity with Him forever.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. Through Him we have everlasting life and are kept by the power of the Holy Ghost until He returns for us one day…all because of His GRACE!
