Watch What You Eat!

Watch What You Eat!

“Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.” Ephesians 5:6

I have been called a “picky” eater by many people. I simply answer to those who ask, “If it doesn’t look right, or taste right, I don’t want it.” And honestly, due to health concerns, I am very careful about the things that I put into my physical body. How many of us are as discerning about our spiritual diets? The bible teaches us that there are men who can deceive us with “vain” or empty words, those things that are not congruent with the word of God. “Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.” Ephesians 5:6.

We must be able to discern through the aide of the Holy Spirit that which is sound doctrine or not. All men are subject to making errors, and it is essential that we read and study the word of God for ourselves. The Holy Spirit will illuminate in us the meaning of His word. 1 Cor. 2:12 states: “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

God has given us each specific gifts: “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets, and some, evangelists, and some, pastors and teachers;” Ephesians 4:11. He holds us accountable for the gifts that we have been given.  It is vital that we pray for our pastors/teachers and one another; pray for the Holy Spirit to impart His truth in our hearts to share the gospel to a dying world.

It is imperative that we “eat” the word of God daily; we grow spiritually when we are continuously hearing and studying the His word. Remember, that we are what we eat both physically and spiritually; let us ask God in faith for the filling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, so that by His grace we are able to listen, learn and apply His word as we walk this journey of life. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26.

So, check your menus, does your spiritual meal plan include a well-balanced plate full of prayer, bible study and praise? Let us strive to eat the Word in a manner that we will always be ready to share the hope that lives within us, as the Apostle Peter admonishes in 1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

May God’s grace and peace guide you along the way this day and always.
