“For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10.

Not long ago, I came across a powerful thought: “Choosing God as your audience means that your eyes are on God, not on people. He is your Audience of One; like you, everyone else is a member of the cast” (excerpt from Lead Like Jesus by Ken Blanchard, Phil Hodges, and Phyllis Hendry).

Shakespeare wrote, “All the world is a stage,” describing a cast of performers in a play before an audience. On opening night, the reviews are in, and there may have been a standing ovation or even some negative criticism. How each actor responds reveals where their heart lies and whose opinion matters the most.  

In Galatians 1:10, the Apostle Paul faced a similar situation when false teachers tried to influence the church in Galatia. He argued that pleasing people and serving Christ at the same time are not possible; true loyalty belongs entirely to God.  “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10.

Life often puts faith to the test. Every born-again believer must choose their Audience of One. The questions that must be answered in the heart are: Do people, things, power, or positions matter most? Or is it the One who knew us from the foundation of the world—the One who orders our steps on this journey called life? 

In Matthew 6:24, Jesus explains that serving God requires absolute loyalty. Matthew 6:24. states: “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” 

There will always be critics and doubters. Still, we need to keep our focus on God, who rules over everything. When we choose God as our Audience of One, what matters most is how He sees us. We honor Him by following His will and showing our love through obedience.

No matter what challenges you face, don’t let critics or doubters get you down. Make Jesus your “Audience of One,” because His approval is what truly counts. As it is written: “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:2-3.
