Dispelling Fear and Anxiety
“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4
The bible teaches us that the Lord gives us peace; in order to keep God’s amazing peace we must occupy our minds and heart with the right things; Satan uses fear and anxiety as landmines waiting to be detonated to destroy our total sense of peace.“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4
Our minds are the central locations where the enemy chooses to unsettle us and make us unsure of our walk along this journey of life. But thanks be to God, we have the power to control our thought processes. A defeatist attitude should never take up residence in our minds. We can fight this spiritual battle with positive thoughts and actions.
Our first recourse when faced with thoughts of fear and anxiety is to call on the name of Jesus in prayer. Prayer is both and action and atmosphere; we should take everything to God in prayer. It is impossible to think negative, fearful thoughts when we set our minds on Jesus; there is absolutely nothing, too great or small for God’s loving and watchful care. There is strength in numbers; it is helpful to search out and find comfort in a faithful praying friend or love one; someone who will pray for us and keep our best interest at heart; Philippians 1:4 (KJV) states: “Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,” and when undesirable thoughts invade our minds; our thoughts must readily turn to meditating on the Person and work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; He will keep us in perfect peace!
The Apostle Paul writes in Philippians 4:8 (KJV) “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” These are the things focus our thiughys on things above and nourishes our spiritual growth.
Let’s take a closer look at these virtues:
True – means not false or unreliable, but genuine.
Honest – noble or morally attractive.
Just – righteous towards both God and man.
Pure – refers to the high moral character of a person’s life.
Lovely – something that is admirable or pleasing to behold or consider
Of good report – things that are fair sounding and have a good reputation.
Jesus will keep us in perfect peace, but we have a responsibility to watch where we keep our thoughts and actions… we musst remember to stay in prayer in and out of season-trusting in God’s faithfulness; faith can and will dominate our fears. Philippians 4:13 states: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
