Do You Know the Difference?

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” Matthew 7:15.

The world’s bestselling and distributed book is the Bible. Currently, there are approximately 5 to 7 billion Bible translations worldwide, and over 900 of those are in English. That should be alarming, because it raises the question of which versions are telling the truth. Many are asleep to the fact that the enemy of our souls seeks to steal the truth from our hearts and lead us away from the Gospel message, the free gift of eternal life! “And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the wayside, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.” Mark 4:4.

The Word of the Lord warns us about false prophets in Matthew 7:15: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” That gives the image of those who are deceitful and utilize cunning devices to keep us from the truth.

We are in a spiritual battle, my friends. The Bible comprises sixty-six books of the greatest love story ever told; it tells of God’s love and redemptive plan for all mankind. It also provides peace, comfort, direction, assurance, and the only way to salvation, which is Jesus, the Redeemer and Lover of our souls. It also gives hope and the promises of so many other blessings that the mere eye cannot see! “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105.

But as the word of the Lord warns us, there are false prophets among us, and they have come in sheep’s clothing—that is, with the pretense of being messengers from the one true and living God—when in actuality they are of their father the devil and have come to take us out! “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44. But nothing and no one can touch the child of the One true and living God!

So, how do you tell the difference? Let me give you an analogy: did you know that, to us, zebras all look alike—they are black and white striped—but in actuality, their stripes are like our fingerprints; they are unique identifiers to each individual zebra. When the baby zebra is born, the mother takes it away from the herd and keeps it with her for some time. This allows the baby to focus only on the mother, and when she returns the zebra to the herd, it recognizes its mother!

My friends, the word of the Lord tells us that “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” John 10:27. When you belong to the Most High God and His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, resides within you, you will know the truth. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26.

Keep your focus on Jesus and seek the truth: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15. Faithfully follow where the Holy Spirit leads, and you will not be easily deceived by the cunning ploys of the enemy; instead, you will walk by faith and not by sight. As the old gospel hymn goes, let Jesus lead you all the way!

To God we give the glory that He guides us in the way everlasting, and the enemy will never pluck us out of His hand. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32.

God’s blessings and peace be with you all.
