“O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:9 (KJV)

It’s a humbling thought to try and wrap ones mind around just how truly great God is! All things move by His omnipotence and divine providence, and the word of the Lord provides evidence that absolutely everything was created by Him. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:” Colossians 1:16.

God is too big, too wide, too great for our human minds to explain! Yet, He is closer than the very air that we breathe. The Psalmist proclaims “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:9. As we look around us, His majesty is evident in all creation; the beauty of His wondrous handiwork is on display every single moment..

Just consider the heavens above; the planets, the stars, and the limitless universe, which gives us only a partial view of how great and mighty God truly is. When trying to even conceptualize the vastness of it all…God’s questioning of Job comes to mind: In Job chapter 38 God interrogates Job about His knowledge of His Almighty power. It’s becomes a lesson in humilty for Job …verses 4-5 state: “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line upon it?” 

It didn’t just humble God’s faithful servant Job, but the awe-inspiring little knowledge that we have of God-must also send us to our knees. Consider the vastness of all the elements that sustain us in this world; those things that we have absolutely no control over, they are all made and move by the power of God; and yet He has made male and female in His image.

“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.” Psalm 8:3-5.

How minute and powerless we are compared to these celestial and earthly elements; but  God loves, provides, sustains, and affords us the opportunity to be recipients of His amazing grace through Jesus Christ our Lord- no matter where we are, what’s going on in this world, we can give praise and honor to God because He is in full control and He’s got His eyes on us!

My friends, God’s power is on display in all things, that includes even in us, yes we are a part of God’s holy plan for all creation, we are evident of His love, power, grace and mercy. It should make somebody happy to know that our steps are divinely ordered by the Lord! Praise God, we can rest in the knowledge that all things are right on God’s time schedule!

The songist penned these words: How Great Thou Art! He is the Lord God Almighty, that Great Shepherd of the sheep- the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last- and there is no other like HIm!. Let us praise God for His goodness towards us and exalt HIm above all things- for great and mighty is our God!
