“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” Luke 6:46. 

I am so satisfied with my Savior. He means more to me than anything—anything that this world could ever offer me. These are beautiful lyrics from a familiar gospel hymn entitled ‘So Satisfied’ by Luther Barnes. The world offers many selfish desires, but none truly satisfy the soul. By contrast, God’s grace and unconditional love satisfy the soul more than we can imagine, and yes, I am so satisfied with how He cares for me. But, Oh Lord, is He satisfied with me?

The word ‘my’ is a possessive pronoun. It denotes ownership. When the song says “my Savior,” it refers to the One who gave His very life for me, and I have accepted Him as my Lord. The One who has total authority over my life. Yes, I am so satisfied with my Savior, but is my Savior satisfied with me? “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” Luke 6:46.

Think about this: do we really seek to please God or, in reality, ourselves? The Bible teaches us that we were created for His good pleasure. “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13. My friends, this means we are to work out our own salvation—not by force or demand, but by being led by the Holy Spirit to align with God’s perfect will.

So, how then can we be pleasing in the sight of our Lord? Romans 12:1-2 gives us clear directions. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God is.” Through His perfect love, God has made us new creatures in Christ…we no longer walk in the darkness, but in the light!

So, this should encourage our hearts. Let us all stop and reflect on how we respond to God’s love for our fellow man and us. Be careful about the things that you do, say, and feel in your heart towards others, for what we do to others – we do unto God. Why, because saved or unsaved, we are all His creation. “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40.

So, how can we satisfy our Savior? The answer lies in one powerful word: LOVE. “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 22:37-39.

May God help us love one another. Let’s treat everyone with grace, compassion, and respect. Think before you speak or act. Take time, even in your busy life, to help someone who has fallen by the wayside. Most importantly, give selflessly of your God-given time, talents, and treasures, looking forward to one day hearing these words from our Savior: “Well done, thy good and faithful servant!”
