“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.“ Isaiah 40:31

When waiting or dealing with difficult circumstances-especially with people- has anyone ever told you that you need to have patience? It’s not exactly what you want to hear at that precise moment, but patience truly is a virtue! The Word of the Lord tells us: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23.

Patience or long-suffering is a gift given by the Holy Spirit in the lives of born-again believers. It is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without becoming angry or upset, or complaining. It involves the ability to display self-control, humility, and generosity. It’s active, not reactive, being steadfast and enduring the trials and tribulations we face, all while trusting God’s faithfulness and timing.

My friends, know this: waiting during those difficult situations in life is found, rooted, and grounded through faith in the Lord. It is in Him that we receive strength, courage, and patience to run this race one day at a time. As Job, who suffered much, said, “I will wait, till my change comes!” Job 14:14b.

So, even in the midst of pain, discouragement, and yes, annoyance, we must wait and stay strong after doing what God says to do in the situation! “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” Hebrews 10:26. God is faithful; He is our deliverer, and He will come through!

The comforting words from the hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus come to mind. In the second verse, Scriven writes: “Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer!

Whatever the needs and concerns on your heart right at this time, run to the foot of the cross in prayer, where Jesus is able to provide all the peace, healing, and comfort that you need! “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.
