Search Me, O God!

Search Me, O God!

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24. God knows, He cares, and He will show us the way!

Have you ever found yourself saying, “Lord, search my heart, help me to see, show me the way, and help me understand your will for this situation?”

Life circumstances can often leave us perplexed, and thinking through the solutions to our deepest concerns is far beyond our comprehension. But the Bible guides us with a great example in the inspiring words of King David, who praises and resolves to rest in the confidence of the all-seeing providence of God! “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24. God knows, He cares, and He will show us the way!

Building on this, in the 139th Psalm, David gets right to the point and acknowledges that God is omniscient and already knew everything about him, even before it occurred- he states: “O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.” Psalm 139:1-3.

This brought peace and comfort to David—he knew by experience that there is absolutely nothing impossible with God, and that God’s divine presence would be with him always. As the Psalmist wrote, “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139:7-10) Just as David, are you willing to trust God and let Him have His way?

My friends, when we focus on who God is, where He is, and what only He can do, we find the same peace and comfort David found in Him. As a result, our faith overshadows fears, doubts, and anxieties, making us safe in the truth that God loves us and has the master plan. As Job wrote, “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10.

Yes, uncertainty, fear, doubt, and sheer attacks from the arch enemy of our souls will pop up at any time, but our all-wise and almighty God holds the future safe and secure in His all-powerful hands! “Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:” Jeremiah 32:17.

So, let us rest in knowing that our steps are ordered by the divine will of God, and our job is to trust Him! “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

God’s blessings and peace be with you
