“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11. 

Settled is a descriptive word. It means something is established, resolved, and unlikely to change. To walk this journey of life in peace and hope, we must have it settled in our hearts and minds that God is sovereign and that He alone has the ultimate plan for our lives. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11.

Because of our position in Christ and His unconditional love for us, regardless of the unsettling questions, debates, or arguments the enemy may throw in our path about any given circumstance, my friends, it has all been resolved and should no longer be up for debate in our minds—we are safe, I say, in the arms of God! “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 10:28.

We have this great assurance that, no matter what life circumstances bring, all is well. We are indwelt with the power of the Holy Ghost, our comforter, keeper, guide, and constant companion on this journey of life. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26.

Therefore, as the Apostle Paul admonished the saints in Philippi: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.. Philippians 2:5. Jesus humbled Himself and became a servant, dying on the cross for your sake and mine- all to fulfill the will of His Father. We, too, must humble ourselves unto the will of our Heavenly Father. Knowing that, in the midst of it all, God’s in control, and: “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” Psalm 23:3. 

That Great Shepherd of the Sheep, our Lord and Savior, constantly refreshes our souls. As the line from an old gospel hymn states: “When the load bears down so heavy, the weight is shown upon my brow, there’s a sweet relief in knowing, the Lord will make a way somehow.” Jesus succors us and provides all the strength we need to run this Christian race in victory.

Let us recall His faithful servant Job, who suffered much and yet proclaimed: “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10. Job had it settled in his heart, and God rewarded his faithfulness. Is your heart settled in the faithfulness and promises of God?

Praise God, my friends, we can rest in the peace of knowing that we are not alone. We abide under the shadow of the Almighty, and He has already prepared something far greater than our mere eyes can see—hold on to His unchanging hands. His promises are faithful and true; He never fails! 

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21.
