“Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.” John 16:20.

We are living in extraordinary times. The future appears chaotic and even dark to those without hope. However, for those of us who are born-again Christians, we can live in the comfort of knowing that our Sovereign Lord has divine providence over all things.

Jesus’ disciples were perplexed and pondered over the meaning of His sayings to them as He foretold His death and resurrection. “Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?” John 16:17.

Jesus being omniscient knew the thoughts and concerns of their hearts, He explained and even comforted them further, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.” John 16:20. Darker days were ahead as He would be crucified, it would appear as though the world had become victorious, but their joy would soon be restored because of His resurrection… no power on earth could have kept Him in the grave! “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”1 Corinthians 15:55.

We suffer many afflictions and uncharted waters as we walk this journey of life; but our Almighty God is omnipotent…the same comforter and victorious Lord as He was during the times of the disciples and is now and will forever be with us. Regardless of our current circumstances, we can live in the comfort of His everlasting hope, peace, and joy. Psalm 30:5 reminds us “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

Let us rest in the confidence that our Heavenly Father is the God of all comfort; absolutely nothing will happen today that He does not allow and will not take us safely through; He is the only One “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

The Holy Spirit will empower all of God’s beloved children to walk in the strength of His divine peace, loving-kindness, and great joy; never forget that God will take care of you…“Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in me.” John 14:1.
