The Apple of His Eye
“And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.” Malachi 3:17.
The enemy of our souls, that great accuser of the brethren, would love for us to think that we are unloved and often forgotten by God when the storms of life are raging; but God loves us so much that He died for us at the nineth hour one Friday afternoon: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
He even calls us His precious jewels. “And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.” Malachi 3:17; and scripture validates that we are the apple of His eye! A cherished person or thing. The term comes from the ancient concept that the eye’s pupil was a solid, apple-shaped body, and, being essential to sight, was precious. It appears in the Bible (Deuteronomy 32:10): “He [the Lord] kept him [Israel] as the apple of his eye.” Freedictionary.com/appleofmy eye.
My friends, God loves us beyond our greatest imagination and Satan and all his demonic forces can do absolutely nothing to separate us from His everlasting love. In this life we experience the joy of shared love, peace, and bonding relationships; but what we experience can never compare to how much God loves us… He provides for all that we need, keeps us safe in His everlasting arms, protects us from dangers seen and unseen, and has innumerable blessings instore for us… “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9.
In the Old Testament of the Bible, God’s children were characterized as a “special treasure” or “my jewels.” The children of Israel were chosen above all nations, to be set aside as a special people, unique and belonging to God, they were to show the world the One true and living God!
God has not changed one iota, and He is still calling His beloved children a special treasure “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” Malachi 3:6. And praise God that just as God spoke to the children of Israel, through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ our Lord, all born-again believers are God’s special treasure and “spared” by Him from the evil of this world and the day of judgment; “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;” 1 Peter 2:9.
Anything that we value as precious, is a prized possession, guarded and kept safe. It is engraved in our minds and hearts. Praise God that we are precious in His sight…a peculiar people, His jewels…shining bright lights of His glory! Christ died on that old rugged cross and got up from the grave the third day; all that we would be spared eternal damnation and total separation from God. Aren’t you glad this morning, to be wrap up, tied up and tangled all up in Jesus… regardless to what we encounter in this life; we are called the apple of His eye, guarded, and kept safe now and forever! “For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.” Zechariah 2:8.
My friends, let us walk in the peace of knowing that we are His precious jewels and nothing and no one can remove us out of His protective and loving care! “My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” John 10:29.
God blessings and peace be with us all.
Thank you for reminding us that we are the apple of God’s eye.
