The Divine Providence of God

The Divine Providence of God

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

The Word of God tells us that God created man in His own image… “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27. He did not create us as mere robots to be manipulated and demanded to follow a strict set of orders. But He breathe life into us, and we became living souls; He has given to us a free will, to make our own choices. Yet, having a free will does not negate that God is sovereign and that everything moves by His power, He has providence over all things. His desire is that we follow Him out of a pure, loving, and submissive heart.

There are those who deny the very existence of God. Divine Providence is logically and psychologically dismissed because they cannot understand how God allows evil in the world. There are many things that we cannot explain, but we know that God exist and is the giver and sustainer of all life. Ultimately, we must understand that we need God, God does not need us. He lovingly provides for all that we need.

Scripture gives us examples of His divine providence that works together for our good and for His glory in the end. The account of Joseph being sold into slavery gives divine insight into the working of God from beginning to end. God allowed Joseph’s brothers to kidnap Joseph, sell him as a slave, and then lie to their father for years about his fate. This was wicked, and God was displeased. Yet, at the same time, all their sin worked toward for a greater good: Joseph ended up in Egypt, where he was made the prime minister.

God orchestrated the events in Joseph’s life to provide for His people and a broad region during those years of famine. Joseph reminded His brothers of God’s divine will to work things for good in Genesis 45:7-9 “And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:”

Our steps are being ordered by the Lord; let us trust where He leads; recognizing that He knows what is best and every hour we need Him to safely guide us on this journey called life. Yes, there are many circumstances that we encounter that we do not understand…  but in the end, Romans 8:28 holds true “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Blessings and peace be to you all; let us give praise and all the glory to our Almighty God!
