This Day

This Day

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12.

Today we were awakened with the gift of the present, this very moment to live and walk in our divine purpose. God amazingly blessed us to see this day. It is easy to get caught up in what comes next…tomorrow and next year; but the Our Father prayer, teaches us to pray for Our Heavenly Father to give us all that we need this day. “Give us this day our daily bread.”  May God help us all to recognize that our lives are orchestrated and planned by Him alone; and because He orders our steps, may we faithfully trust in His divine sovereignty for the future.

“Stop and smell the roses” is an idiom that means to slow down; to take time out of our busy schedule to enjoy or appreciate the beauty of life. It is an encouragement to live life with a deeper gratefulness for the world around us. It is a reminder to take notice of the people and events of the day, to be present in every moment, seeing beyond the ordinary and perceiving the divine providence of God in and through His creation.

Every time a loved one or dear friend passes on, we are keenly aware of how short life really is… Psalm ninety speaks of our moral brevity; “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” So, while we are rushing ahead with plans for tomorrow, let us be thankful for and consider what we need to be doing this day to fulfill our God given purpose.

If we truly desire to live a life that is pleasing in the sight of our Savior, we must ask to be taught by the guidance of the Holy Spirit; “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12. When we consider how short life is and the certainty and nearness of death; it behooves us to fervently pray to whole-heartedly devote ourselves to the study and practice of true wisdom, meaning, wisdom from above, only found in the Word of God. “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6.

My friends, every single moment that God gives us- has a divine purpose; let us seize every opportunity to walk worthy of our calling, following where He leads, praying for mercy to live in the center of His joy, that He will keep, no succor us through the turmoil of this life; allowing us to utilize the gifts that we are given to spread the gospel message and to one day live in His presence forever.

Let us choose to appreciate and live this day for His glory “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” James 4:15-16.

God blessings of peace, love, and joy to all.
