What Constitutes Living a Blessed Life?
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2.
A young Christian once asked my advice on living a successful or blessed life. My answer was only a few words, not some profound, lengthy discourse… yet so powerful for every born-again believer as we run this Christian race. “Desire, meditate on, and obey the Word of the Lord every single day of your life– for Jesus is the Word, and in Him we have eternal life! That’s what constitutes living a blessed life.”
Psalm 1:1-2 states: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
The world defines being blessed as having great wealth, fame, and social status. Who would not desire a bank account overflowing, a prestigious job in a Fortune 500 company, and all the other things that this life seems to afford? This may sound good- but fortunately, that is not what constitutes a blessed life. Only following things from above provides eternal dividends! “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:20-21.
Acquiring all that the world offers will not give us mental or physical health, comfort, wisdom, knowledge, or empowerment to run this Christian race. But that which constitutes a blessed man does: “But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Psalm 1:2.
No matter what this world has to offer…all good things come from above. “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psalm 1:3.
The real key to being blessed is having an intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, which is far greater than silver or gold! “The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb” Psalm 19:9-10.
My friends, desire the sincere milk of the word and surrender your all to Jesus-trust His amazing grace to do things miraculously in and through you, and when the chips are down and the load grows so heavy, let your hope, confidence, and comfort lie in His unfailing love and mercy.
Life is filled with unseen challenges, but the Lord is our faithful keeper now and forever-hold to his unchanging hands! “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” Hebrews 10:23.
Finally, all that I have God gave me, all that I know God has taught me, and praise God that where I am, nobody, absolutely nobody but the Lord God Almighty has brought me!
“I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” Psalm 37:25. God has and will always provide, protect, heal, deliver, and bless His beloved children.
Jesus, the only Begotten Son of God, our Lord and Savior, is the only way to live a blessed life now and forever!
May God’s blessings and peace be with you always.
