Finding Comfort in the Word

Finding Comfort in the Word

How do you faithfully apply the scriptures when you are down in the thick of the battle, desiring to hear a word from the Lord, needing a little peace? And in that very moment, the Holy Spirit reminds you that “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” John 10:27.

When we are facing the giants in our lives, it is a blessing to know that in the darkest of hours, we can cling to this assurance: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”  Psalm 119:105:  We can find comfort in the Word of God to heal, deliver, and shine the light of His amazing grace in every situation we face.

Here are just a few scriptures and thoughts that readily come to mind as I seek the Lord’s comfort in waiting; hopefully, you will turn to them and many others to find strength to run on in victory!

Phil. 4:13–”I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me.” Valley experiences can seem insurmountable. By God’s grace, we can follow His leading and run on to see what the end will be!

Joshua 1:9- Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” In the face of adversity, we must stand strong and forge on to do the work that God has called us to do. The enemy consistently whispers in our ears that our witness is being marred and of no effect for the Lord. In these moments, he subtly wants us to feel defeated or cowardly for not following the status quo, but this is far from true. To such lies, we must call him out as the liar he is and has always been, standing strong knowing that we are safe in the arms of Almighty God!

Proverbs 3:5-6-“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding; In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Therefore, it is imperative that we place full trust in the Lord.  Standing committed and faithful to follow where the Holy Spirit leads.

Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” In these quiet moments, we must stop, be still, and listen to God. He is sovereign and in control of our lives!

Isaiah 40:31- “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” With renewed strength, let us wait until God says, “Move.” Then move—not a minute before or after. He will provide all the strength that we need to persevere and accomplish His will.

1 Corinthians 13:12 –”For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” We see only part of what God has planned for our lives at this time. But one day we will know when we see Him face to face. For now, let us trust in the Holy Spirit’s leading. He never fails; He has the ultimate plan, and it is out of this world!

Psalm 46:1– “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” With this knowledge, we can find comfort and peace to weather life’s storms. He will give us strength and power to stay the course, even in the midst of the fiery furnaces of life, according to His divine will.

2 Corinthians 12:9   “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” To this verse I can only say…HALLELUJAH! Everyone’s course is not the same, but remembering God’s grace is sufficient to fit every need that we have assures us that He will sustain us and keep us forever!

Finally, we are assured of a blessed life if we stay in the Word. Psalm 1:1-2 states, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

My friends, God has given us sixty-six books of the greatest love letter ever written…search the scriptures for all that you need, for in them you will find comfort and rest for your soul.

Blessing and God’s peace be with us all!
