His Eye is on the Sparrow!

His Eye is on the Sparrow!

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

Sorrow of the heart and other emotions that render us in need of comfort push us ever so close to Jesus. In the sanctity of His love, peace, and comfort, we can run to find shelter from grief, sorrow, and the hurts that come with this life. As Matthew 11:28 says: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

In such times, may God help us to envision the tiny sparrow. Small as it is, nothing happens to a sparrow without God’s knowledge or permission. “If His eye is on that sparrow, we can rest assured He watches over us! “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.’” Psalm 91:1.

The word of the Lord tells us that He is the God of all comfort. He knows exactly what we are experiencing at any given moment, while a mere man cannot reach deep into the soul to comfort, strengthen, and give just the right amount of grace we need to keep standing in the midst of painful or devastating circumstances.

The Bible tells us in John 11:35 that “Jesus wept,” Our Lord and Savior wept at the grave of Lazarus, not out of despair, but out of compassion and empathy for Martha and Mary. Jesus knows the agonizing pain that sin and death bring into this world. But may these words of comfort remind some grieving heart today that God is faithful and that His grace will give you all the strength you need.

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9.

Hear these comforting words from Isaiah 51:12: I, even I, am he that comforteth you. Great is the mercy of God—wherever you are right now, He is there comforting, reassuring, and providing the grace you need to keep holding on, because He is faithful. Even through pain, tears, and heartache, He will bring you sweet joy. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:5b.

And let us consider God’s humble and submissive servant Job, who suffered and lost his children and much more at the permissive will of God. His testimony was such as this: “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10. Job was willing to wait until his change would come!

My friends, God has a plan that far exceeds what our eyes can see, even in sorrow. Trust in His faithfulness and hold on to His unchanging hands; He will take care of you! “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” John 14:1.

Rest in this assurance: God’s got His eyes on you. He loves you, and He will wipe away every one of your tears! Civillia D. Martin wrote these words in the 2nd stanza of His Eye Is on the Sparrow.

Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,

And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;

Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

May the love, comfort, and sweet peace of the Lord God Almighty keep you in His arms of care. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1
