The Lord is Sovereign!
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13
Sovereign is defined as supreme power or authority. In the beginning God created… He is the beginning and the ending of all things. He does exactly what He wants, when and how He wants to, because He is our sovereign Lord who rules supreme in Heaven and on earth. Do you believe this today? Matthew 6:13b states, “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13.
Life circumstances can place us in very uncharted waters. When we consider the loss of loved ones and friends, debilitating illnesses, financial downfalls, mental or spiritual anguish, and many other conditions that so often plague our existence in the blink of an eye, we have no choice but to humble ourselves before God, recognizing that He is sovereign. He can decide exactly what to do with His creation, when He wants to, because it is the pleasure of His divine counsel, and He knows what is best. “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” Psalm 24:1.
Let us consider His faithful servant Job, who states it like this: “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10. Unknown fears and anxieties can debilitate the mind and heart, but God is preparing and maturing us for dangers seen and unseen. He cares for us, and there is absolutely no failure in Him.
My friends, God loves us unconditionally. John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Praise God, He makes all things right. We can rest in the knowledge that, in His divine wisdom, there is an ultimate plan at work behind the scenes. Even during those heart-wrenching times when we may not understand, it really does work altogether for good, and through every experience, He is covering us under His protective wings of love!
We must hold on to His gracious and loving hands, even in the face of great turmoil, devastation, or loss, assured that the only absolute is God. God is… He reigns forever, and all things obey His will. David expressed the power and protection of the Great Shepherd of the sheep, our Great I AM, with these comforting words: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4.
So, when we face those tough circumstances for which we have absolutely no control, and the tears begin to flow, let us remember that God’s power, protection, comfort, and unfailing love are with us, now and forever! “God is our refugeand strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1.
Yes, He is God all by Himself, and He moves in ways that far exceed our finite understanding. But His love will never fail us, and we are kept safe in His everlasting arms! “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1.
God’s blessings of peace, comfort, and mercy be with you now and forever.
