“Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.” Psalm 27:3

Caught in a perilous storm on the Sea of Galilee, the disciples feared for their lives. Seeing what they believed was a spirit, they cried out in terror. Jesus immediately calmed their fear, saying, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)

The uncertainty of the future, the appearance of insurmountable trials, and tribulations that we face in life can send us into a downward spiral, as the disciples were that night. Fear and anxiety about imminent danger will cause each of us to cry out. But the word of the Lord comforts our souls with these words: “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3.

Jesus came to the disciples’ aid that night and calmed their fears as he walked towards them on the water. He is the same God, over two thousand years ago today, who gently reminds us not to be afraid. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10.

In life-shattering moments, we can call on Jesus! He is the anchor of our souls, our peace in the midst of a storm, and praise God, our light and salvation. So, when He says, “Be not afraid,” it is well! “When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.” Psalm 27:1-3.

My friends, we can rest assured that our steps are ordered by the Lord, He holds us safe in His everlasting arms, and nothing shall separate us from His love! “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39.

So, be of good cheer, and hold on to your faith, that same Jesus,  who calmed the raging seas of Galilee, is the lover and keeper of our souls- He is Immanuel, God with us forever! “and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:20.
